Pros and Cons of an Airbnb Wedding

Why scramble looking for a venue, reception location, and any necessary accommodations for out of town guests or your destination wedding when you can get it all with an Airbnb? Airbnb allows you to stay in a unique, homey places while experiencing travel and culture in a different way than you would from a hotel room. However, planning a wedding in an Airbnb does come with it’s set of challenges. From our own experience filming weddings we have created a list of the pros and cons we’ve noted to help you foresee what it’s going to take to plan your wedding at an Airbnb.

Here are some of the Pros:

  • It’s Unique: Most Airbnbs are or were family homes, and because every family is different, each house comes with special singularities and with a lot of character. You can incorporate that uniqueness into your wedding making your wedding one of a kind.

  • You and the People Closest to You Can Stay There: One of the biggest perks of having your wedding at an Airbnb is that you, your closest friends and family can stay there. That means the whole experience is going to be a party. Creating fun memories while all being together is something you won’t regret and will stick with you forever.

  • It Can Save You Money: Because everything will be in one place, you won’t have to spend as much on Uber or car rentals. Plus, having the option to cook your own meals will prove easy on your wallet (and your figure). Lastly, splitting the cost of a large house instead of individual rooms at a hotel, is something that can save some serious cash.

And here come the cons:

  • Bathrooms, bathrooms, bathrooms: Even though there are all different sizes of houses when it comes to Airbnb, the fact that it’s a mansion might not mean that they have the capacity for a hundred people to go to the bathroom in a period of 3 hours. Talk to your host about their experiences hosting big groups and what options they might have when it comes to bathrooms. Believe me, you don’t want to deal with the bathrooms being clogged on your wedding day.

  • Limited Amount of People Allowed: Depending on the house you are renting there might be a limit on how many people are allowed as guests. That can be a blessing or curse, but knowing any restrictions will be essential for your wedding.

  • Not all Airbnbs Allow Parties: Before all your wedding party gears up for shots and dancing, make sure your Airbnb allows parties. Also, putting away anything fragile might save you some future headaches. If the Airbnb is in a gated community they also might have regulations about how loud the music can be and a specified time the party has to dwindle down.

  • Parking: f you have a big guest list and a lot of them are bringing vehicles, it’s best to figure out the parking situation in advance. Although, Uber is a better option anyway if there will be alcohol involved.
